An Air Conditioner is designed to cool your home down by 20 degrees from the temperature outside. Therefore, set your thermostat accordingly. If the temperature outside is 95 degrees, then set your thermostat for 75 degrees. If you have your thermostat set for 70 degrees or lower, then your Air Conditioner will never turn off during the day. This will cause your energy bills to be at their highest and will cause the most wear and tear on your system.

Make sure your Air Filers are clean. Clogged air filters cause the system to work harder than it has to in order to suck in the appropriate amount of air that it needs, if it will be able to accomplish this at all. The more strain you put on your Air Conditioner the more money you are taking out of your pocket.

If your summer energy bills make you feel sick, and you are following the above two rules, then maybe you own an older model Air Conditioner.
